Virat Kohli's return to international cricket remains in the dark, as his ODI future remains a mystery, leaving chief selector Ajit Agarkar puzzled. The right-hand batter last featured for India in the title-winning Champions Trophy campaign in February-March this year. Later, the legendary batter featured in the IPL 2025 season, helping RCB win their maiden IPL trophy in May 2025.
Since then, the veteran has been living in the UK along with their family. Kohli was spotted training in London as one of his fan pages uploaded a picture. However, according to the RevSportz report, there is an aura of 'pessimism' around the RCB star's future in ODI cricket owing to a lack of communication from him. This massive development comes days after both Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not named in the India A squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia A at home.

The reports stated the management wanted both the star batters to feature in the series in the lead-up to the white-ball tour of Australia. Currently, Australia A is touring India for a test series. Following that, India A will feature in 50-over matches at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. There were swirling speculations that the senior players would be part of the ODI series, in a bid to gear up for the three ODI games Down Under, as neither of them has played any cricket since the IPL 2025 season.
Not clearing fitness tests main reason for Kohli & Rohit Sharma not playing India A series against Australia A
Notably, Virat and Rohit Sharma did not clear the mandatory fitness tests, conducted earlier this month. While the former traveled to BCCI's Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for the test, the latter had the privilege of giving the tests in London. This adds to the mystery of whether Kohli will play the ODI World Cup 2027 event, which is two years away.

Earlier, there were several rumors following a media report that the Australia ODI series will be a farewell series for both the Indian icons. Both players are already retired from Test and T20I cricket. The report also mentioned that with BCCI putting pressure on Kohli and Rohit to play domestic cricket in a bid to stay relevant for selection for 50-over cricket, both the icons would quit playing the format and bow out from international cricket in October. However, there is no official announcement from either of the players regarding these speculations.
