Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana made history by becoming the first Asian woman to score 15 centuries in ODI internationals. Her record-breaking ton also marked the second-fastest century by an Indian women’s cricketer, reaching the milestone in just 77 balls during the second ODI against Australia at Mullanpur.

After losing the toss, India was put in to bat first. The in-form opening duo of Prathika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana provided another solid start, adding 64 runs in the powerplay. Smriti was the aggressor early on, while Rawal played the anchor role..

Smriti brought up her half-century with a six at the end of the 15th over and kept the momentum going in the middle overs. Around the 28th over mark, she reached her 15th ODI hundred, becoming the first Asian batter to do so in women’s cricket. The century off just 77 balls is also the second-fastest by an Indian woman in ODIs.

She also achieved another unique milestone: the first player to score three or more ODI hundreds in two different calendar years, having smashed a record four centuries in 2024.

Mandhana Misses Out on 150 as Australia Fight Back

Mandhana eventually fell for 117 off 91 balls, a knock laced with 14 fours and 4 sixes, dismissed by Tahlia McGrath. At the time of her dismissal, India looked on course for a 300+ total. However, a late Australian fightback saw India bowled out for 292 runs at the end of the first innings.

In response, Australia got off to a shaky start, losing both openers inside five overs — thanks to Kranti Goud and Arundhati Reddy. As it stands, Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney are rebuilding in the middle, with the match finely poised.
